Intro to Paddlesurfing

Introduction to Paddlesurfing (1.5 hours) $68/person, maximum of 5 students per class.

Course Overview: This course is designed for beginners who are looking to try the sport for the first time, or for those who have tried SUP a few times and are looking to hone their technique.  Includes use of all equipment.

Gearing Up- How to carry and transport your board and paddle, how to wear your PFD, and other gear related issues.

Safety- Discuss safety issues and coast guard regulations related to Paddlesurfing as well as weather/water conditions and potential hazards to be aware of when entering/exiting the water.

Dry land training- All of the skills needed for SUP are best introduced on land to reduce apprehension and allow you to focus on the skills introduced instead of how to stay balanced AND these new skills.  We cover everything from what to do if you fall off your board to how to properly use your paddle once up and riding.

Please stand up!- Once on the water we’ll begin on our knees and work our way to standing. After you’re standing up, we’ll once again go over stance, paddle position, body position, and taking your first strokes with your paddle.

Different strokes- Once you’re comfortable with the paddle we’ll work on how to perform the forward and sweep (turning) strokes.  We’ll also introduce more advanced skills to give you a taste of how much more there is to learn!

Preview of more advanced techniques (time permitting) – Preview of some of the more advanced skills, fitness exercises and workout routines which are covered in level 2.
