FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is Paddlesurfing difficult?

A: No, it is a very beginner friendly activity. We guarantee you will stand up and paddle on your own during your first lesson with us!

Q: Will I get wet?

A: Probably.  Some students let us know they would like to stay as dry as possible.  Since the boards are very stable, it is possible to never get wet during the entire class (there is no guarantee you won’t fall off your board though!).  For students who wish to push their skill level and try more difficult turns, they will most likely fall into the water from time to time.

Q: Do I have to be in good shape to learn to Paddlesurf?

A: No, people of all shapes and sizes can learn to Paddlesurf. It is a great way to get in shape and you can make it as relaxing or challenging as you like.

Q: Do I need to know how to swim?

A: YES.  You will be required to sign a waiver acknowledging your ability to swim prior to taking a class with us.

Q: Do I need to know how to surf ocean waves to Paddlesurf?

A: No, surfing ocean waves is not a pre-requisite. However, learning the balance and glide of Paddlesurfing is an excellent introduction to ocean surfing. Many professional surfers train on Paddleboards.

Q: How old do you have to be to learn to Paddlesurf?

A: All ages can learn! Our classes require parental consent for minors to participate. As with all exercise, those with physical ailments should consult their doctor before beginning any new activity.

Q: Is Paddlesurfing safe?

A: Dangers are inherent in all sporting activities, but with proper training, equipment and awareness of conditions Paddlesurfing is as safe or safer than any other watersport.

Q: Is the water clean enough for this activity?

A: The short answer is YES.  We conduct most of our classes on the Merrimack and Charles rivers. Water quality has improved dramatically over the past ten years thanks to government and non-profit efforts to clean them up. Both rivers are monitored for suitable swimming and boating conditions by various organizations. If conditions are not considered safe classes are rescheduled. Keep in mind that we spend very little time IN the water as opposed to on top of the water.

Q: Do you sell equipment?

A: Yes, we offer boards, paddles and accessories. If you take a class with us, you receive a discount on your first purchase.
